Just got back from Sydney, Nova Scotia, where the HUPMAN BROTHERS won Best Blues Recording Of The Year! YOW! What a nice way to cap off a glorious weekend of hangin' out, rockin' out, and enjoying each other's company (as well as some of Cape Breton's lovely scenery).

Here's what it comes down to: Countin' Quarters is a sweet, flowing collection of finely crafted songs drawing on rock's deep blues and country roots, delivered with down-home high-energy SOUL by brothers Scott and Ryan Hupman with Mike Carroll on drums and lots of saxomophone from Ian Sherwood. Bob Federer gets his share of good licks in on keyboards, Ariana Nasr lays down some nice fiddle, and I got a couple rockin' solos in there as well. I gave this cd a rave review when it first came out (see my "listenings" page), and it is my supreme pleasure to be musically involved with these guys, performing and recording, with or without "Industry Awards". If you get the chance, come see us this year...I have a real good feeling about this band, it isn't often you can see real seat-of-the-pants rock'n'roll with big toothy grins and rip-roaring licks from all involved. Reminds me of the good old days, know what I'm sayin'? The way music is supposed to be.

On the recording tip, I am close to finishing overdubs on my Cabin Lance project. I recorded him singing some tunes, off the cuff, a few years ago with a couple old microphones we found in a milk crate in the desert...it has taken me WAY TOO LONG to get to work on this, but I can now see the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel...I just hope I can locate Mr. Lance to deliver the finished article. If you be reading this, brother, drop me a line!
